How does a Chiro help my game?
When people ask what do I do and how in the world can chiropractic help their golf game I always kind of chuckle. What I do is far more than just chiropractic I look at the bio-mechanic part of it in your swing to find restrictions and to see why in the world you’re hitting those chilly dippers and hosel rockets. Most people ask me if I can increase their hitting distance and the answer complicated, because yes I can but there’s work that needs to be put in. There are muscles that need to be retrained and also strengthened. But, don’t worry we’ll have you hitting like DJ in no time.
As a Sports Chiropractor and working with golfers my main goal is to create optimal movement by improving joint mobility, activating deep spinal musculature, and decreasing the state of over-active hypertonic muscles. When a joint becomes restricted either through injury or prolonged bad postural mechanics, this leads to a decreased firing of the deep stabilizing muscles “such as your Multifidus, Rotatores etc.” and an over activity of other muscles such as the Erector Spinae, Quadratus Lumborum and Iliopsoas.
So what happens is the joint and spine stabilizers aren’t working properly, therefore the muscles normally responsible for bigger tasks like joint movement have to pick up the slack in an attempt to stabilize the skeletal system. In the end what I do is improve motion in restricted joints through manual manipulation and soft tissue work which not only improves motion on a specific joint level, but also activate the deep stabilizing muscles and causes a reflexive de-activation of the large compensatory musculature.
Once the joint is mobile again you to find a way so that the deep muscle stabilizers can stay activated and increase endurance, I do this by going through different functional exercises and the reason this is so important is so that the imbalances do not re-occur.
